Carrier Company Scale, Employees and Global Footprint
Carrier’s workforce figures depend on the reporting date and source definition. The 2024 Form 10-K reported approximately 48,000 employees at December 31, 2024, while the current fact sheet uses a rounded figure of more than 53,000 employees; these figures are not directly comparable because they represent different reporting contexts.
| Scale measure | Figure | Period or definition |
|---|---|---|
| Employees | Approximately 48,000 | December 31, 2024, worldwide |
| Employees | More than 53,000 | Current fact-sheet figure, global operations |
| Countries served | More than 180 | Current fact-sheet figure, worldwide |
| Factories | 51 | Current fact-sheet figure, worldwide |
| Research and design centers | 39 | Current fact-sheet figure, worldwide |

The prior annual-report disclosure provides additional workforce geography for 2023. Approximately 53,000 employees were reported worldwide at December 31, 2023, before the 2024 portfolio transformation, with the regional mix below.
- In 2023, 39% of employees were in the Americas, 23% in EMEA and 38% in Asia; the percentages are rounded.
- About 4,300 U.S. production and maintenance employees were disclosed for 2023, representing a subgroup rather than total U.S. employment.
- Approximately 11,000 European employees were represented by two European Works Councils in 2023.
- Carrier informed and consulted with 46 local works councils in Europe in 2023; this is a governance-body count, not a workforce or facility count.
Carrier Revenue Statistics and Sales Trends
Carrier reported consolidated net sales of $22.486 billion in 2024, compared with $18.951 billion in 2023. The reported increase was 19%, but the company also identified a 3% organic increase and a net 16 percentage-point contribution from acquisitions and divestitures, so reported growth should not be read as a standalone market-growth rate.
| Business measure | 2024 figure | 2024 change versus 2023 |
|---|---|---|
| Consolidated net sales | $22.486 billion | 19% reported increase |
| HVAC net sales | $19.078 billion | 26% reported increase |
| HVAC organic sales | — | 5% organic increase |
| Refrigeration net sales | $3.5 billion, rounded | 9% reported decline |
Source: Carrier Global Corporation 2024 Form 10-K Annual Report. Financial figures are generally GAAP, while segment sales and organic measures follow Carrier’s management-reporting definitions and can be affected by acquisitions and divestitures.
The HVAC segment was the largest reported business grouping in 2024, with regional variation. HVAC sales in the Americas increased 9% in 2024 versus 2023, while HVAC sales in EMEA declined 1% over the same comparison period.
Refrigeration sales declined 9% in 2024 versus 2023, with the reported change including the CCR divestiture. The segment’s $3.5 billion figure is rounded, so it should not be treated as a precision equivalent to the consolidated GAAP sales figure.
Carrier Financial Statistics: Profit, Cash Flow and Investment
Carrier’s 2024 gross margin was $5.981 billion, equal to 26.6% of sales, compared with a 27.2% gross margin percentage in 2023. Research and development expense increased from $493 million in 2023 to $686 million in 2024, although that expense line is not a complete measure of innovation investment.
| Financial measure | 2024 | Comparison or scope |
|---|---|---|
| Gross margin | $5.981 billion | 26.6% of sales in 2024 |
| Gross margin percentage | 26.6% | 27.2% in 2023 |
| Research and development expense | $686 million | $493 million in 2023 |
| Operating profit | $2.646 billion | Consolidated Carrier |
| HVAC operating profit | $2.308 billion | Segment measure |
| HVAC operating margin | 12.1% | 2024 segment margin |

Carrier provided $1.571 billion of cash from continuing operating activities in 2024. It reported $519 million of capital expenditures and invested $10.890 billion in businesses net of cash acquired, principally reflecting the VCS acquisition; these cash-flow measures have different purposes and should not be combined as if they represented one spending category.
Carrier Sustainability Statistics: Emissions, Energy and Waste
Carrier’s 2024 sustainability reporting separates direct operational emissions, purchased-energy emissions and value-chain emissions. Scope 3 is a value-chain estimate and should not be compared with Scope 1 or location-based Scope 2 as though the boundaries and measurement methods were identical.
| Sustainability measure | 2024 figure | Definition |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 emissions | 147,343 metric tons CO2e | Direct operational emissions |
| Location-based Scope 2 emissions | 285,076 metric tons CO2e | Operational purchased-energy accounting |
| Scope 3 emissions | 570,462,802 metric tons CO2e | Estimated value-chain emissions |
| Total energy consumption | 4,791,858 gigajoules | Carrier operations |
| Renewable energy consumption | 766,123 gigajoules | Company-reported renewable energy |
| Renewable share of electricity | 28% | Electricity consumption only |

Against its 2021 baseline, Carrier reported a 3% reduction in energy intensity by 2024 and a 20% reduction in absolute Scope 3 emissions. The Scope 3 result remains an estimate, and baseline accounting may be recalculated.
Carrier also reported a 5% reduction in total water withdrawals in 2024 compared with 2023. In waste management, 96% of operational waste was diverted from landfill in 2024; diversion does not mean zero waste or zero disposal.
Carrier Workforce, Safety and Governance Statistics
Carrier’s workforce indicators combine survey scores, safety rates and employee-resource-group activity. Survey scores are not percentages of employees, and incident rates use Carrier’s stated denominator of 200,000 work hours.
| Workforce or safety measure | 2024 figure | Population or definition |
|---|---|---|
| Pulse employee engagement score | 77 | Carrier employee survey score |
| Inclusion score | 76 | Carrier employee survey score |
| Total recordable incident rate | 0.32 | Incidents per 200,000 work hours |
| Lost-time incident rate | 0.15 | Incidents per 200,000 work hours |
| Inclusion and allyship events | About 100 | Through six global Employee Resource Groups |

Carrier’s forward-looking climate and investment commitments provide targets rather than achieved outcomes. The 2030 goals include a 42% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions from the 2021 baseline, a 25% reduction in absolute Scope 3 emissions from the same baseline, and diversion of more than 95% of operational waste from landfill.
Carrier also plans to invest more than $4 billion in intelligent climate and energy solutions from 2020 through 2030. This is a forward-looking investment commitment, not cumulative spending already realized.
The sustainability report estimated that customers using Carrier products avoided more than 490 million metric tons of greenhouse-gas emissions from 2020 through 2024. That estimate is attributed to customer use of high-efficiency and lower-global-warming-potential products, so it is not a direct reduction in Carrier’s operational emissions.
